Listening, Learning, and Building: How Rentalscape Evolved in 2025

Written by Deckard Technologies | Nov 17, 2025 11:57:56 PM

When we think about innovation at Deckard, it always starts with one thing: listening. Every conversation with a customer, every support ticket, every piece of feedback helps us understand what local governments truly need to manage short-term rentals confidently.

This year, that dialogue helped the team build and deliver over seventy product and feature releases, all built directly from your feedback. Each one represents a shared effort to make STR oversight simpler, smarter, and more transparent.

As our Principal Product Manager Gert Erasmus puts it, “The best ideas don’t come from a whiteboard. They come from the people using our platform every day. This year was about turning those real-world insights into tools that make a difference.”

Here’s a look at some of the most meaningful ways we’ve evolved Rentalscape this year.

A Smarter Way to Inspect: The New Inspection Portal

Few challenges are as complex or critical as keeping properties safe and compliant. Inspections can be time-consuming, data can be scattered, and teams often lack a unified view of what’s happening across the community.

That’s why we built the Rentalscape Inspection Module, a tool that changes  how jurisdictions handle property inspections. It empowers teams to collect and manage inspection data seamlessly, building on Rentalscape’s real-time property insights to give every short-term rental a complete, up-to-date record.

Now, local governments can see everything they need to know about a property in one place, from inspection history to compliance status.

“We wanted to make inspections effortless,” Gert says. “With this release, communities can finally see the full story of every property in a single, accurate record.”

Keeping Registrants Informed: Tax Payment Due Reminder Emails

Clear communication is the foundation of compliance. To help jurisdictions keep property owners informed throughout the tax cycle, we launched Tax Payment Due Reminder Emails.

This feature automates the process of sending updates and reminders, letting registrants know when reporting periods open, when payments are due, and when deadlines are approaching. The result is fewer missed payments, smoother cycles, and stronger compliance overall.

It’s a simple feature, but one with a big impact on how communities stay connected and accountable.

Transparency in Action: Activity Feed Enhancements

Compliance isn’t just about rules, it’s about trust. And trust comes from transparency.

Our improved Activity Feed now automatically tracks every license sent event, capturing who sent it, when it was sent, and to whom. This creates a complete, reliable audit trail for all license-related communications.

It’s a small detail, but one that eliminates guesswork and gives jurisdictions the confidence to know exactly what happened, when it happened, and why.

Proactive Compliance: Violations Management

Prevention is always better than reaction. With our new Violations Management feature, jurisdictions can now identify and address potential ordinance violations before they escalate.

Using AI-powered detection, this tool helps teams flag possible issues, track their investigation, and resolve them efficiently - all within Rentalscape. It strengthens enforcement while reducing manual effort, freeing staff to focus on the bigger picture.

It’s technology doing what it does best: removing friction so people can do their work better.

Editing Made Effortless: The Edit All Functionality

Sometimes, productivity gains come from the quiet improvements that make daily work easier. The new Edit All functionality is one of those upgrades.

Authorized users can now update multiple fields for permits, licenses, or user accounts in one smooth workflow. No more clicking through separate screens or updating records one by one. This single feature saves hours of time, ensures data accuracy, and keeps operations running smoothly.

Building What Communities Need Next

Each of these releases shares a common origin feedback from our clients and partners. From inspection teams to tax administrators to policy leaders, these insights continue to shape how Rentalscape evolves.

As Gert Erasmus reflects, “Innovation isn’t about chasing trends. It’s about solving real problems for real people. Every release this year has been a step toward making compliance easier, communities stronger, and public service more efficient.”

We’re proud of how far Rentalscape has come this year, but we’re even more excited about what’s next. Together, we’ll keep building technology that helps communities thrive.
