The Town of Mount Pleasant Identified 484 Short Term Rental properties

17 Oct, 2025

Overview

Mount Pleasant is a community that lives up to its name. Adjacent to Charleston, this South Carolina recreational paradise attracts both tourists and those looking to host them via short-term rentals. Unfortunately, not all STR operators play by the rules, leaving holes in compliance–and in the community’s tax coffers.

Challenges

Mount Pleasant requires both short-term rental permits and business licenses for STR operators. Although the city used a software platform to show those not in compliance and those not remitting the required taxes for rental income–the platform only reported on properties if a renter left a review–and only on a handful of rental sites.

Deckard shows data for an entire municipality, revealing not only permit and license status, but also detailed information, including whether the rental is short or long term, date and time booked, rental amount, rental history, reviews, location, future bookings and more–from every rental site.

"With the other platform, we just weren’t getting the full story–or fully compensated...We needed a solution that actually solved questions about whether hosts are in compliance and how many days their properties are rented."

With Deckard, Mount Pleasant has increased compliance and tax remittance while significantly reducing workload and stress.

"It’s not just like having an extra set of eyes, it’s like having an extra employee, It’s an amazing product, and their customer service matches up. I hardly hit the send button on an email with a question or a request and I receive a response. I could never go with another rental compliance software. I won’t."
